Rumors are that he was an Axis scientist during WWII who was brought back through modern (and mystical) science to serve the General as his Chief Science and Medical Officer. All that is known is that the Major is "alive" as no more than a brain and nervous system encapsulated within a highly advanced bio-mechanical body.
